Al Shabaab Kill Two Non-Muslims For Failure To Recite Quran

From Tuko:
Security has been heightened in Garisa [sic] county after suspected eight al-Shabaab militants ambushed a bus in Garissa county on the morning of Friday, September 14, killing two non-Muslims on the spot.

The passenger bus owned by Kilas Company was heading from the border town of Hulugho when the attackers waylaid it between Ijara and Sangailu ordering its occupants to alight.

The Swahili speaking assailants who were armed with AK 47 rifles emerged from a thicket and ordered everyone to produce identity cards to enable them easily pick their targets, Daily Nation reported.

It is after the two victims failed to recite a Quran verse that they were shot dead.

The deceased were the bus mechanic and a passenger, a casual labourer on transit to Masalani town.

“There were three non-locals who were ordered to recite the Shahada. One had lived with locals all his life so he was able to read and was freed,” said one passenger.

Following the incident, Garissa Governor Ali Korane condemned the attack calling for religious unity and end to schism for the sake of peace among local residents.

“They want to wage war on grounds of faith and ethnicity. We will not allow this. Kenyans from other parts of the country will be part and parcel of our communities. No one will divide us,” said Korane….
