Grenade Thrown At French Troops In Burkina Faso

From Express:
THREE people have been wounded after a grenade was thrown at French troops in Burkina Faso just before President Emmanuel Macron’s arrival, security sources reported.

The shocking attack took place in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, West Africa which is a former French colony.

Two men on a motorcycle launched the grenade at a French army vehicle as it made its way to a barracks housing French special forces.

A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: "Two hooded individuals on a motorcycle threw a grenade towards a French army vehicle, which was not hit.”

The attack took place at 8.00pm GMT and the explosion injured three civilians, one of whom seriously.

A local reporter said there was a small hole in the tarmac where the grenade exploded and a damaged civilian vehicle.

It is not yet clear who threw the grenade.

French security forces have been in the country since 2010 to help the regional Governments combat jihadist violence in the Sahel, especially neighbouring Mali.

Ouagadougou has had two terrorist attacks carried out by Islamist militants.

There was a shooting spree in January 2016 that killed 20 people and another shooting in August this year that killed 19.

President Macron was visiting the country as part of a four-day Africa tour aimed at boosting France’s regional influence.

Macron will also visit the Ivory Coast and will make an appearance at the EU-Africa (AU) summit to be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Abidjan.

The tour has come amid growing anger across the African continent at politicians’ collective failure to do more to clamp down on human trafficking and slave auctions in Libya.

The revelations by CNN of slave auctions a fortnight ago also claimed European politicians had been warned about the dire state of Libyan migration centres.

Macron has called for an emergency meeting of the UN security council this week saying auction houses are a crime against humanity.
