Two Killed In Stabbing Attack At French Train Station

From Israel-National-News:
Two women were stabbed to death in a train station in the city of Marseille in southern France, Sunday afternoon.

The attack took place at the Saint-Charles train station in Marseille when a man brandishing a knife began stabbing travelers waiting at the station.

One woman was killed when the attacker slit her throat; a second woman died after being stabbed. In addition to the two fatalities, a number of civilians were wounded during the attack.

An eyewitness described one of the murders during an interview with CNews, saying the attacker grabbed the woman from behind and slit her throat.

“She couldn’t have seen a thing,” the witness, who identified herself as Dominique, said. “She was lying in a pool of blood as I ran away. I heard two shots fired. It must have been the soldiers.”

Police responded to the incident, shooting the suspect dead at the scene.

Authorities have yet to release the suspect’s identity.

The attacker shouted “Allahu Ackbar” during the attack, the Daily Star reported.

Security forces have evacuated the train station and the surrounding area.

Mayor Jean-Claude Gaudin praised the security officers stationed at the scene of the attack for their rapid response, saying the attack could have been far worse.

"The number of victims could have been higher," Gaudin said, according to the Daily Star.

France has stationed armed guards at major shopping centers and transportation hubs – including train stations – since a series of ISIS terror attacks in Paris in November 2015 left 130 dead and hundreds more injured.

Local police say the attack was likely a “terrorist act”.
