A woman in her 40s, who was given triple talaq in one go on mobile phone, was on Saturday attacked with acid allegedly by her husband and in-laws in Neuria area here.
Police have registered an FIR against five persons and sent Rehana Hussain for medical examination. "She has received burn injuries below her waist and the medical report is awaited," a police officer said.
Rehana was given talaq by her husband on cell phone from New Zealand about six years ago, which she refused to accept.
Rehana also approached a court against the divorce and the matter is pending before Uttarakhand high court.
According to Neuria circle officer (CO) Nishank Sharma, Rehana, who has her parental home in Neuria, filed a written complaint on Saturday alleging that she was attacked with acid.
"Rehana got married to Matlub Hussain 18 years ago. A few years after the marriage, Matlub shifted to the US along with Rehana. But their relations soured. In 2011, Matlub returned to his native town along with Rehana. But after spending a few days there, he left for New Zealand where he got a job," Sharma said.
According to Rehana, Matlub gave her triple talaq on the cell phone, which she outright refused to accept.
She then started a legal battle in the court for her fundamental rights.
According to the complaint, Rehana went to her in-laws' house on Saturday and was attacked with acid by them.
