Pakistan: Woman Strangled To Death In Hussainabad

From the Express Tribune:
A woman was strangled in Hussainabad within the jurisdiction of Paharipura police station on Sunday.

An official of the Paharipura police station told The Express Tribune the deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Nadia.

“She was the mother of three children and had been divorced by her husband,” he said. “Two months ago, she rented a house in Hussainabad area and started living there.”

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Faqirabad ASP Wasim Riaz said Nadia had initially shifted back to her father’s house in Taru Jabba, Nowshera after her divorce.

“Her family’s rivals repeatedly said Nadia’s husband had divorced her due to her bad character,” the ASP said. “Nadia had moved to Peshawar two months ago. She had started living in a rented house.”

Element of mystery

According to Riaz, an FIR had been registered on the complaint of her ex-husband Atlas Khan.  “There are a few things in the case that remain a mystery,” he said. “For instance, her three children, who also lived with her, were taken away by her brother a few days back.”

He said the deceased’s family members have issued contradictory statements which have aroused suspicion.

Police believe the woman had been killed in a suspected case of honour killing.
