United States: Somali Immigrants Guilty Of Aiding Al-Shabaab

From the NY Post:
A trio of Somali natives pleaded guilty to aiding the al Qaeda-linked terror group al-Shabab on Tuesday in Brooklyn federal court.

Madhi Hashi, 25, a former British citizen, and Swedish citizens Ali Yasin Ahmed, 30, and Mohamed Yusuf, 32, copped to providing support to the Somali organization between 2008 and 2012 in exchange for 15-year prison terms.

They each would have faced 30 years to life in prison if they were convicted at trial.

The trio received military training and explosives instructions from al Qaeda-linked operatives and pledged their support for the Somali offshoot, prosecutors said.

“I agreed, along with others, to provide material support to a foreign terrorist group … precisely the Somalian group al-Shabab,” Hashi said in court in English.

His two cohorts made similar admissions in Swedish before their pleas were entered.

They will be sentenced on Sept. 28.
